Sandra is already in Almancil and I’m feeling a bit lonely at the moment… I really don’t feel like doing anything and simply hate when I get like this!
Guess I’ll grab a book and then hit the sheets!
Good night.

Good night.
Again I’ve skipped a couple of days… but fear not: nothing important happened. No meeting yesterday, ’cause SPA was sick.
Still no word/data from the server dude about where I’m supposed to set up all the things.
The last 2 days were spent around LDAP.
Vortex brought me my laptop from Évora yesterday, along with all his stuff: he got an internship at YDreams, and so he’s leaving Évora. Congrats Vtx e Vitor.
Sandra also came to spend her first weekend with me in LX… which reminds me: bye!
The big highlight of the day was the message: “Congratulations! Your DSpace is up and running!”
Too bad it was not on the server, ‘cuz someone is not sending me what I need…
Next friday: the first meeting with SPA and Arriaga about my Masters…. The feeling I get is that, as Gotcha once said, SPA does get the things going!
So I forgot about how I DID NOT have any ADSL nor ZAPP config on the work laptop (sorry about the missing updates vtx
)
I, together with professor Arriaga, have partially decided about what my Master thesys is going to be: the UML – ISCO “interface”. I now wait for the word of the “big head”, SPA.
On the working level, nothing much to add up. Doing some OpenFlow analysis and tests, and waiting for some guy to send me the login data for accessing some test server where I’ll be messing things up.
On the last hours I’ve been digging around a Dapper (ubuntu) installation in search of the XGL magical display… but to no avail yet (and I really don’t have the time to spend/waste on this, but it’s hard not to).
My laptop is also back… or, better put, on it’s way. Not with me yet, but out of Acer’s sluggish & dreadful assistance!
And that’s all folks.
Gonna make this short because it is too f*****g late!
No Ubuntu for this laptop. OpenFlow is starting. DSpace probably tomorrow or next monday.
Thanks for the company, João and Bruno.
I’m tired… ZZzzzzzZZZzzzz
Finally, day 1.
After more intense traffic, but not so bad, I arrived at LNEC. The clock ticked 08:45.
An hour later, after all the bureaucratic crap, I was introduced to about 20 different people… A couple of suits, but mainly casual dressing and, of course, I don’t remember any names ![]()
Right after the “showing around” I was lead to my desk… and there it was, my machine: an Asus A6QVa laptop. I was VERY happy since I’m guessing I’ll never see mine again…………………
And now the things that really matter: the work!
I’m yet to be formally introduced to my projects, but tomorrow I’ll be diving right into DSpace.
Testing OpenFlow is also on the menu, as well as Zope&Plone. Is guess this time I’ll see something done right with this CMS.
Later on, I’m going for some evolutionary computing (generic algorithms and the sort)…. uuuhhhhh
I’m motivated. Hope it lasts!
Just got back from my scouting. It took me about 14 minutes from home to LNEC, but since I was doing 60Km/h on 2ª circular, I guess I missed the thick traffic again. At 8:30 I was standing in front of LNEC staring at it’s old facade, wondering where would my “cubic-domain” be.
Putting a stop to my staring, I decided to go for a walk in search of a post office, where I could mail my Zapp activation. It didn’t took me long to find one, so, any day now, I’ll have my Zapp fully active.
To make a long story short, a few months ago I applied for a Scientific Investigation Initiation Scholarship at LNEC. On December 30th I got a letter: “blah blah blah … you’ve been accepted.”
In 2 days – this wednesday – I’m starting.
This weekend was my uproot from Évora…
I feel kinda sad, but sooner or later ALL YOU GUYS ARE COMING THIS WAY TOO ![]()
And BTW, thanks for the help moving my stuff (Tiago, Silvia, João, Claudio and Mom&Dad).
Right now I’m sitting comfortably on my half-upside-down room in Lisbon, more accurately in Prior Velho (with my Zapp telemodem working pretty good), and looking out the window to the Tejo and Vasco da Gama bridge. I guess I was VERY lucky to find this house. Thank you Sandra.
So I’m in Lisbon, last friday was my last day Zope’ing in the “steam room”, and the day after tomorrow will be “Day 1″ in some other let’s-see-what-I-get room… I’m curious to say the least. Hell, I can’t wait to see it all! Hope I don’t get disapointed later on.
This morning I went for the heavy traffic but I missed it! I overslept a little… Tomorrow will be my second scout-morning around the neighborhood to see the sights.
I’ll be updating my real-city-life experiences on a dailly basis from now on.
Note: The bread, from the backery across the street, is tip top
