Today I skipped work… or should I say, I “slided in” some of the overtime I’d done.

The girl (Claudia) will be moving in this weekend, as I said before. She’s older than me and Carlos… we’re guessing about 28! She seems nice, but only time will tell.

The Weekend
Friday March 31st 2006 ..
Filed under: Wherever I May Roam

This post comes a little behind schedule, being almost one week late and all, but it’s definitely noteworthy.

Last weekend, Sandra and me went to São Pedro de Moel, to a guest house called “Albergaria Pedra d’Ouro”. (I had been given this romantic weekend by Sandra on my 25th birthday)

After picking up Sandra at Sete Rios, spending almost an hour trying to get out of Lisbon, driving 140Km and trying to find the guest house for about another hour, we finally arrived. And it was so so so worth everything. The place is beautiful and extremely peaceful!

After checking and settling in, and since the food at the guest house was a little expensive, we decided to go to to Marinha Grande for dinner. Then the cravings for pizza hit both me and Sandra, and so…

Pizza

50cm pizzas… and damn good, I might add.
After this, we called it a day!

After an early start the next morning and a great breakfast…

Breakfast

… it was time for our bike ride …

Bike - Sandra

As you can see the weather was a little cloudy, and the occasional thin rain discouraged a longer bike adventure.
We decided to get robbed a little later… 2,90€ for two juices! Damn!
After lunch it was time for our massages (relaxing and shiatsu) in a romantic lounge. Very good.
Next we headed for the pool&jacuzzi.

Pool

I then decided the pool was not deep enough, so I tried to bite my way through the bottom… and blew up a lip!

Later that night, the dinner. Once again very good, and the company, of course, couldn’t be better…

Dinner with my love

We forgot about the hour adjustment, so the next morning we did everything later than we should, including the check out… Nobody told us anything, though :)
On the way back to Lisbon we stopped by Nazaré to buy “perceves” and the rest of the “gear” for lunch.

And so it was: A wonderful weekend.
Thank you, my love.

Day 31
Thursday March 30th 2006 ..

8:20
Browsing for the dailly updates I came across a linux game list. To my surprise, there was Quake4! I’m getting it, off course.
On the Xgl topic, I had to drop it… the blow ups came to be a little more than just occasional. I’ll keep an eye on it though!

10:00
I hadn’t noticed that the Quake4 file was just 57Mb… As it turns out, you need the game cd’s or dvd for the rest of the files! This is actually good news, since I’ve only lost 3 minutes with the game this way :P

11:40
One hour to fine tune the login scripts for the big test workflow… Now for the login dependent tasks.

14:45
I’ve installed OpenFlowEditor to help me with the process of assigning activities to users. Now I can do it graphically.

Today, at 21:00, give or take, me and Carlos are going to meet the girl who will be living with us. She will be moving this weekend… I think I’ll drop by later tonight to comment on this ;)

Day 30

9:40
I’ve been setting up a shoutbox here on “Wired…”, so if you have a quick word for me and do not want to post it, just shout it on the box. Depending on the acceptance of the box, I’ll decide to keep it on the blog or remove it. Tell me what you think.

Enough play, time for work!

15:20
A few hours ago Linho told he had xgl working and stable in his laptop. Having tried it before but with great stability issues, I’ve decided to give it another go. Linho pointed me this how-to, and after a couple of fixes all was wobbling and rotating and shading and all…
I still have the occasional blow up, though!

17:50
Almost done with the 22 activities of the workflow… Carlos is here… I’m off.

BTW, thank you guys for the shouts today. I guess the box stays :P

Day 29
Tuesday March 28th 2006 ..

Yes, failed the weekend post last night, but it’s Faria’s fault :P
He decided to visit us last night, “being all rich and having his new car”. Ehehehehe. So we strode along to Vasco da Gama for a coffee and the weekly digest.

8:30
The day is beautiful today. Blue sky, sunshine, birds singing outside the window… just wonderfull.
I brought Faria’s camera today for a couple of pics.

Also, I guess it’s today: the meeting with SPA and LAC (in about an hour).

9:20
SPA is already here. Let’s go.

10:32
The meeting is over. Lots of work to do. I think I’ll post on that subject later on.

11:10
Crap.. the bar is closed and I’m hungry! I’m gonna have to hit the cookies…

14:30
During lunch I’ve been thinking about an error i’m getting with a workflow… I’ve isolated the problem mentally (one of those ‘plings’). I was right: both of the conditions were incorrect so no state changes occurred. After a few more tune ups it was sending all the emails and printing all the desired messages… Now it’s time for the real work :s

Day 28
Monday March 27th 2006 ..

After a marvelous weekend with my angel it’s time to get back to work.
I’ll be posting the weekend journal tonight.

8:30
It’s 8:30 in the morning and the weather is looking good.
I dropped off Carlos near LNEC a few minutes ago. He was going to get the metro to Picoas.
It’s good to have someone to talk to personally at home.
In other topics, Tiago has his new “friend” too (and btw, I couldn’t comment on your post!)

14:40
The DSpace presentation has been rescheduled for next week…
Meanwhile I’ve got another presentation to do: Commence.
This OpenFlow is not at all “out of the box”… damn!

But the motivation is about. The reasons: sun outside and a full heart inside.

17:00
Tiago mentioned the other day that Jesse Cook reminded him of “An Evening with John Petrucci & Jordan Rudess”. I was ashamed to tell him that I didn’t knew the album… yes, it’s true.
But I fear not, as salvation is near. I’ve just finished the download and will be listening to it very carefully tonight.

18:10
I’m pulling my hair off trying to run a customized example… really DAMN!!!!

Day 27
Friday March 24th 2006 ..
Filed under: @LNEC, Logged Important Stuff

I forgot to post yesterday that I finished the presentation. I’m still waiting for LAC’s judgement, though. Of course, between giving a hand to Antonio, Dora e João, and helping out Victor with his zope there was no time for the workflows…
The workout was good, and I feel I’m getting used to it.

8:25
I’ve arrived. It’s not raining today, wich makes me happy and hopefull for the weekend.
Sandra’s arriving today at about 5pm. I’m dropping off work earlier
too, to pick her up at Sete Rios, and Faria’s camera at Secil (oh… CCCCCCCCCCecil!).
And then… off to São Pedro de Moel.

For now, workflow is first on the menu!

9:00
Faria’s getting his new “friend” today. Watch out for the backseat stains dude :P

I’ve just started to download the 16 episode of “LOST”. UUUUU, can’t wait…

11:45
To help me debug some zope stuff I’ve installed a python command line completer. Also installed DocFinderTab, to get the zope methods for almost every object.
These two combined are a great way to understand the inner workings, and do some serius scripting.

13:30
“Bacalhau à Florentina”… huuuumm huumm!

The “LOST” episode is here already. Good! Maybe I’ll watch it today… Hum, and then again, maybe not!

14:30
I think I should log the rlcompleter installation since it was a little different this time.
So, here’s what I did:

Created the file /home/rg/.pythonstartup with the following code:

import pydoc
import inspect
import rlcompleter, readline
readline.parse_and_bind('tab: complete')
def source(obj):
"""source of the obj."""
try:
pydoc.pipepager(inspect.getsource(obj), 'less')
except IOError:
pass

The “PYTHONSTARTUP” environ var is really important, so:

export PYTHONSTARTUP=/home/rg/.pythonstartup

Also added this to my .bashrc, obviously.

To force .pythonstartup to be loaded everytime a debug session of zope is started, I edited /opt/Zope-2.8/lib/python/Zope2/Startup/zopectl.py (line 169), replacing:

'import Zope2; app=Zope2.app()'

with:

'import Zope2; app=Zope2.app(); execfile(\'/home/rg/.pythonstartup\')'

16:00
Time to go.
Cya next monday…

Day 26
Thursday March 23rd 2006 ..

8:05
Where’s the Spring? I had to wear a turtleneck again… This weather completely sucks.

I arrived even earlier today. My plans for the day are to get the next wednesday’s presentation done and checked by LAC, and to get a sample wfl working with a couple of forms.

14:38
It’s rainning like hell. Going to lunch was an adventure, testing how far we could go without being hit by some falling tree branch… We all survived :)

Day 25
Wednesday March 22nd 2006 ..

8:20
I arrived early. Lovely weather, sunshine, “RETUMBA do relógio” was empty. Good start.

9:30
Forget about the “lovely weather”.
This workflow sw is a “pita” (pain in the ass) to understand. Since it is integrated with zope I’ll need to code in ZPT… But where the hell are the f#$&$%g APIs? Damn it!

12:30
Lunch & rain! How nice.

13:40
I’m going to help Vitor Duarte (no, not Gh3rn1ca) with some zope&plone stuff for the intranet.
He says that the board wants some “little things”. Yes, we all love these “little things”, don’t we?!

16:40
Vitor’s zope is done for the day, for me at least, since I’m just helping out.

17:00
Boy, a storm broke out in the office next to mine! Somebody is really upset…

Day 24
Tuesday March 21st 2006 ..

8:40
Caught a little traffic today again; the day is grey once more; I’m pretty much OK from yesterday’s workout; I still haven’t heard from SPA.
At 11am I’m supposed to be at INETI on account of Alinex: let’s meet new people!

Back to the workflows, then.

9:06
Being my 24th day here at LNEC, I decided to pay homage to the number, and the man who gave it a real meaning: Jack Bauer ;)
You can find random “facts” on the sidebar, under Jack Bauer Power. For now, all the “facts” are taken from here, but I’ll be making some of my own real soon. Hope you enjoy it.

My thanks to João Oliveira who pointed me out the site.

10:30
Off to INETI.

15:02
Back. Cab drivers’ conversations rule.
The problem was simply in the pcmcia suport, wich blew up during boot.
