There’s a little thing to solve before DSpace can move into the “user test phase” – and becoming V0.9b. In UE they patched a comment addon which I’m having trouble to get to work here… Something about the paths…

In 10 minutes I’m having my first masters meeting for a long time now… It’s been 3 months since the last one :s… All the stream of events led my masters to be left in a lethargic state, which, I must confess, I’m not very happy about! Anyway… today this is bound to change.

If all goes according to plan, in four/five months’ time I’ll have everything ready… Since I couldn’t keep my mouth shut, AJAX and WEB SERVICES are new going to be part of the bigger “cake”… I’m worried about the (short) 2 months I have to achieve FULL completion of all the code, although I’m pretty excited everything!
But first there are (more than) a few items I must attend to in order to get a stable version of what’s already done.

It’s done. V0.9b is now ready to go – fixed with a symbolic link, as the addon had no parameter configuration for the root path, and there were calls scattered all over the code…

The sky is grey but I feel OK, despite being a little mashed up from yesterday’s workout – the teacher is a 23yo cool guy, who happens to play basketball damn well… I, on the other hand, suck at basketball, and not being in shape DOES add to sucking!
I’m resuming my masters next monday after this long pause.

Vinhamos ontem de Santo André (eu e a Sandra) quando, de repente, cai um valente pinheiro no meio da estrada onde iamos, ai uns 100 metros à frente. Felizmente não caiu em cima de nenhum carro, mas por pouco. Escusado será dizer que tivemos que voltar para trás e apanhar a autoestrada, que era o estava mais a jeito. Mesmo à saida da autoestrada decidimos dar uma gorjeta aos senhores das autoestradas por terem arrancado todas as árvores das proximidades, proporcionando assim momentos descansados a todos os automobilistas – mesmo àquelas bestas que andam a 200Km/h com vento e chuva e uma visibilidade estimada de 20 metros! Assim foi, paramos numa daquelas cabaninhas com luzes e demos 2,85€ à senhora que estava lá no alto.

Today I stayed in bed a while longer… It didn’t pay off though: traffic was awfull when I came to work!!

I’m going to edit the final items on dspace today – or so I think. I need to have all the predefined document types and metadata-type associations loaded into the db at spawn time.
My initial idea was to take advantage of the sql scripts that run upon a “fresh_install”, but it didn’t work. This was due to the other db data not being loaded this way – and being loaded latter on – and so I would be breaking some constraints. The other way – the way it’s actually done for the other data – is to have all the data I want in a xml file, and load it using the code that’s already there to load the other data.
This would be fine, had this “code” be done with general data in mind, but NO. So I have to edit a bunch of files and replicate all the loading procedure for my data…

All the data is in. A “fresh_install” now spawns dspace with all the predefined types and associated metadata fields.

It’s now time to retest and adapt the import mechanism I had set up for a mysql dump to be loaded into dspace.

As I suspected, the big changes that I made to the Dspace source code brought some problems to the bash import. It seems that even during the bash import, as each item is being imported, there’s an instance of a workspace_item created, wich in turn now needs a little more information about the document type. At first I didn’t get why the need for an workspace_item in the import, but it’s clear that if something goes wrong for an item, it will need to be resumed…
That understood, I had to make the information, about the document type, known.
I’ve just noticed, though, that the relevant info about the type is the one from the previous database rather the one I input on the command line. Should this be changed??

DHA needed it’s own way of presenting a search result – I think that their “view” is relevant and might be of use for others. The idea is to build a bibliographic layout to appear as the result of a search rather than the actual table layout. The problem for now is that it will need a different bibliography method for each document type, and since the document types were made easy to edit and add (by only the admin, but still), we might have a flaw. Anyway, I’m told to let the layout show only the biblio of those types defined. This might trim the search results… but I’ll do it!

… que fazem questão de dizer “A minha estação do ano preferida é o Inverno!”, eu respondo com “.!.”
Eu também gosto tanto!! É tão fixe ter frio, andar com 10 kilos de roupa em cima, ter que andar com guarda-chuva e mesmo assim chegar sempre molhado onde quer que se vá… É mesmo do que eu sinto falta nas outras estações do ano, principalmente no Verão. Aliás, ainda agora me lembro de estar na praia a pensar: “Isto era fixe era que fosse Inverno… Estar na praia com calor não vale nada! Valia muito mais tar a tremer de frio e molhado até ao osso… e vestido, que assim é que é de homem.”
E eles dizem “Ah, mas é tão fixe estar dentro de casa a ver a chuva a cair!” e eu digo “Pois é… mas só é fixe se não estiveres a pensar: F#$%sse, não há meio de parar de chover para eu poder sair de casa!”, e eles dizem “Ah, mas é tão fixe estar na caminha a ouvir chover e ficar no quentinho.” e eu digo “Pois é… mas tu não tens um trabalho, pois não?!?” e eles dizem “Ah, mas é tão bom estar a comer gelado ao pé da lareira enquanto chove lá fora!” e eu digo “Pois é… mas só podes comer gelado se não tiveres a garganta feita num fanico porque apanhaste uma molha!” e eles dizem “Ah… mas ….” e eu digo “Há, mas são verdes! Já reparaste que todos os argumentos bons sobre o Inverno implicam que estejas em casa, abrigado daquilo que o caracteriza? Frio e chuva!!!”

Mas não se preocupem, eu gosto de tudo contra o qual falei, só não gosto mesmo é de apanhar chuva e de ter MUITO frio – e ficar doente, claro está!

Ontem cometi a loucura de sair do trabalho 3 minutos mais cedo (e assim fiz só 1:27 a mais!). E dizem voces: “Bah, 3 minutos… Como se fizesse diferença!” Ao que eu respondo “Ah pois faz, sim senhor!” Não era à toa que estavam 4 pessoas a olhar para o ponto a ver se este marcava as 17:30:00 para poderem passar o cartão.
Eu desci as escadinhas que antecedem o ponto, saquei o cartão da cadeira, parei, olhei todos nos olhos durante 0,5 segundos, pensei “Isto não é normal!”, pedi licença e passei o cartão. Depois de eu passar, todos acabaram por passar também, efectivamente antes das 17:30:00!

Go figure!!!

Ainda me lembro, na universidade, de quando estava uma semana inteira à procura de um bug estúpido. E como eu vejo que agora tudo está tão diferente e o quão eu evolui desde dessa altura.
Sim… PORQUE HOJE É SÓ QUARTA FEIRA E FOI SÓ MEIA SEMANA!!!!!
